The short answer

What mobility and flexibility coaching is

Mobility and flexibility coaching with Jasper MacDermot is 1-2-1 work at UNTIL Liverpool Street that builds range you can actually control, because controllable range is what protects you, improves your lifts, and takes the stiffness out of a desk-bound day. Flexibility is how far a joint will move, mobility is how much of that range you can control under your own strength, and the aim here is squarely the second.

This is a defining part of how Jasper coaches, and it grew out of his own story. A decade of hard training left him beaten up and in pain, and the way back was treating mobility as a trainable skill rather than a warm-up afterthought. Backed by Functional Range Conditioning, your range is assessed honestly, trained with intent, loaded gradually, and woven into your strength work so the gains stick.

Range that is not loaded does not last, so once your control improves the new range is reinforced with gradual loading and a little consistent homework, then integrated into the squat, hinge, and press so your strength has somewhere to go. You do not need to be flexible to start: most people who come for mobility coaching feel stiff and restricted, and that is exactly the point to begin from.

How mobility coaching
works

Flexibility is how far a joint moves; mobility is how much of that range you can control. Jasper assesses your control, trains the restricted ranges as a skill, loads them so they last, and integrates it all with your strength work.

Assess your range and control

It starts with an honest look at how your joints move and, more importantly, how much of that range you can control. Drawing on Functional Range Conditioning, Jasper finds the areas limiting your training and your day.

Train range as a skill

Mobility is trained, not just stretched. You work the restricted ranges with intent and control, building active strength at the end ranges where most people are weakest, so a position you can barely reach becomes one you can own.

Load it and make it stick

Range that is not loaded does not last. Once control improves, the new range is reinforced with gradual loading and a small amount of consistent homework, so the gains hold between sessions rather than resetting.

Integrate it with your training

Mobility is woven into your strength work rather than treated as a separate session. Better positions in the squat, hinge, and press mean your strength has somewhere to go, with less of the nagging tightness that holds people back.

Mobility and flexibility
FAQs

What is the difference between mobility and flexibility?

Flexibility is how far a joint can be moved passively; mobility is how much of that range you can actively control under your own strength. A flexible joint you cannot control is not much use under load. Jasper focuses on building usable, controllable range, which is far more durable, protective, and useful in training.

Can mobility work help with stiffness and old aches?

Very often, yes. Stiffness usually reflects a lack of controlled range rather than a lack of stretching, and training that range as a skill tends to help far more than passive stretching alone. It starts with an honest assessment of where your control is actually limited, then targeted work to rebuild it safely.

Will mobility training slow down my strength work?

No, they work together. Better mobility lets you train the big lifts through fuller, safer range, which usually improves your strength rather than competing with it. Jasper integrates mobility into the programme rather than treating it as a separate session, so it adds to your training instead of eating into your time.

Do I need to be flexible already to start?

Not at all. Most people who come for mobility coaching feel stiff, restricted, or stuck in the same nagging positions, and that is exactly the starting point. Your assessment shows where your control is limited today, and the programme builds from there at a pace your joints can actually adapt to.
